We have heard about the cheap ad-supported plan from Netflix for the past few months. There were some leaks and rumors about the ad-supported plan and it’s details, but nothing was confirmed until recently. Now, we have a confirmation from Netflix that it’s cheap ad-supported basic plan will launch in November 2022 in select countries.
In the first six months of this year, Netflix lost hundreds of subscribers, which is problematic for the company as this would affect it’s revenue. To increase it’s subscribers and income, the company decided to launch a cheap ad-supported basic plan with some limitations in a few select markets by the end of the year. And then, the plan will roll out to everyone next year.
This ad-supported basic plan will roll out to users in 12 countries in November. These 12 countries are Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the US. The cheap ad-supported plan will cost $6.99 in the US, which is three dollars more affordable than the current basic plan, which costs $9.99 and will be available for US users from November 3rd. The same plan will be open for users in Mexico and Canada from November 1st.
This plan is almost identical to Netflix’s current basic plan but with a few more limitations. The cheap ad-supported plan will have all the features that comes with a basic plan, like the ability to switch to other plans, personalized content, number of connected devices, or cancel the plan at any time.
Some limitations of the ad-supported plan are that users won’t be able to download content or there are few restrictions on the licensed content. There will be only 4 to 5 minutes of ads every hour.
Existing users can also change their current plan to this cheap ad-supported one when available, but they have to bear some limitations and ads if they want to save some bucks.
The plan will cost $6.99 per month for users in the United States, EUR 4.99 for UK base users, and CAD 5.99 for users in Canada. The company has mentioned the pricing of it’s basic ad-supported plan in other countries, where the plan will be available from November on its Help Center page.
