Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip will launch on May 20, the company confirms. The chipset has been in the news as there were reports that the upcoming chipset was delayed to a coronavirus lockdown in China.
Now, on it’s social media platform, the company confirmed that it will host a launch event on May 20. Chances are that the company will launch it’s upcoming flagship chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.
The company also posted a short teaser of the announcement of it’s new chip on the Chinese social media platform – Weibo. The teaser hints that an upgraded chipset from Qualcomm will be announced at the launch event on May 20. The launch event will be live-streamed for the global audience and has the title “new products”. Currently, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the flagship chipset from Qualcomm which is used in flagship phones like Samsung Galaxy S22 series.
Qualcomm will announce an upgraded version of it’s flagship chipset named Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus which will be used in flagship Android devices that will launch in the second half of the year. This upgraded chipset is manufactured by Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC instead of Samsung.
The upgraded chipset will bring improvements in GPU over it’s predecessor. Previously, as well all the Plus variants of chipset launched by Qualcomm only bring improvements in GPU performance only. With this Plus variant chipset, we can only expect a boost in graphics performance. We also expect that it will resolve the heating issues which many users faced on Android devices with 8 Gen 1.
The first two devices to be launched with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset are expected to be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. In the coming months, more OEMs will launch their flagship Android devices with this upgraded chipset in the months to come.
