Magneto is a script designed for small businesses, including creating an online store. The source code of the program is open, in the Magento Open Source version. It is one of the best options, and here’s why: in today’s world where everyone is online – if you are offline, chances are high that your store will remain unknown. If you don’t sell bread and milk, you should probably consider an online store for your products.
Unlike a regular store, an online store gives you excellent visibility to a wide range of shoppers. Online you can sell locally, nationally and, why not, internationally.
Once you’ve gotten this far, you are faced with a problem: which platform should you be using? Should you use a hosted solution (like Shopify), a proprietary platform (built by you from scratch).
Magento offers two main packages for users. Free open source ecommerce development, better known as community edition. Designed to meet the basic needs of e-commerce businesses. Small business owners can create a website with simple online store functionality that is easy to launch and customize.
Open source version features include:
- built-in check;
- payment and delivery tools;
- managing multiple stores;
- order management;
At the same time, another package – Magento Commerce – is a universal solution that is easy to use and has broad capabilities. Compared to Magento Open Source, comes bundled with advanced features and analysis dashboards, an improved client lookup solution, a page rebuild builder, optimized cloud hosting, customer support, and more. And for those who want to try out the advanced features of Magento Commerce, a free 30-day period is available.
Ecommerce platforms have made building your own online store more cost effective and easier than ever. The Magento e-commerce platform has been the go-to choice for retailers all over the world.
It has undergone recent changes to become a leader in the online business world. Other platforms follow, too: BigCommerce, Shopify, Salesforce, and Woocomerce.
Multifunctional
It offers many out-of-the-box features to manage your business such as multiple stores, many locations, different languages, product types (simple, custom, virtual, grouped, batch, downloadable), color swatches. Since the release of Magento 2.3, it has also supported multiple warehouses, different price tags, and a wide range of currencies.
Magento open source vs commerce, or any other ecommerce platform. It stands out for its variety of features. Magento Commerce offers powerful capabilities when it comes to marketing, user loyalty, user experience, and business performance.
Catalog and its possibilities
Magento allows you to set individual settings, thanks to a flexible template management system. At the same time, buyers can quickly find the product they are looking for – ratings, statistics, reviews and navigation at several levels help in this. Directory management gives you the following capabilities:
- product label management (approval, deletion and editing);
- creation of virtual goods;
- personalization of products;
- automatic resizing of graphic images;
- redirecting search results.
General conclusion
In my opinion, it is a script for large online stores. Huge functionality is Magento’s strong point. For small shops with a couple of hundred product items, this platform will be too much. It would be expensive to manage such a heavy script.
In terms of popularity and functionality, I would compare Magento with 1C-Bitrix. Both platforms for large stores, both in advanced version, both expensive, only Magento system is popular in USA.
