Xiaomi has officially announced that the highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be on 25th December in China. And from the official teasers ahead of the launch, it seems Xiaomi is going all out to redefine what smartphone photography is.
The brand has confirmed that its latest 17 Ultra will debut the industry’s first 200MP continuous optical zoom technology. This was possible due to close collaboration with Leica, which positions the 17 Ultra as the most powerful zoom-focused smartphone camera system available today.
At the core of this new technology is a massive 1/1.4-inch 200MP sensor, paired with an advanced 3G+5P lens structure. This setup enables true continuous optical zoom from 75mm to 100mm, eliminating the traditional gaps between fixed telephoto focal lengths. Unlike conventional systems that rely on switching lenses or digital cropping, Xiaomi’s new solution delivers consistent image quality, sharpness, and color accuracy across the entire zoom range.
The 200MP periscope module is also Leica’s APO (Apochromatic) certified. By minimizing chromatic aberration and improving edge clarity, the Leica APO lens ensures professional-grade color fidelity and contrast, even in challenging lighting conditions.
One of the standout features of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is its focus on portrait photography. The device offers four “golden” portrait focal lengths, 75mm-85mm-90mm-100mm, each optimized for different portrait styles.
