Elon Musk’s order to reduce Twitter Infrastructure cost by $1 Billion

Twitter

Since it’s takeover by Elon Musk, Twitter underwent drastic changes that include a massive staff layout including the top executives, and an $8 charge for the blue tick verification.

Now, another piece of news came that Elon Musk gave an order to reduce Twitter infrastructure cost by $1 billion annually. This is all because the social media platform is on a cost-saving spree since the takeover by the world’s richest man. This news comes from Reuters which saw the internal slack message from the Twitter team.

The source confirmed that Musk order the Twitter team to save $1 Billion annually on infrastructure expenditure. This might not go well in the favor of social media platforms, especially in high-traffic occasions like the US mid-term elections.

The slack message reviewed by Reuters also disclosed that Twitter is planning to save $1.5 million to $3 million daily from the company’s cloud services and servers’ expense. This project is called “Deep Cuts Plan.”

Twitter is bleeding $3 million a day in a current situation considering all the revenues and spending. The company has not responded yet to the Reuters response.

The platform is looking for ways to reduce extra server space that is there to make sure that the platform remains functional during high-traffic events. If they do so then there is a chance that the website and app might go down during a critical event when many users visit the app and website to get information regarding the event.

One of the sources on the condition of anonymity revealed that “Musk is willing to introduce that risk to meet these goals”. The second source reveals that these reductions in cost and cost-saving measures are “delusional” and that servers may fail “in spectacular ways” when there is high traffic.

Musk has given a deadline of November 7 to the employees to present the cost-saving measures, as revealed by the slack message reviewed by Reuters. Even some employees have been asked to work seven days a week to meet the deadline.
