PayPal and Venmo Gets Apple Tap to Pay Support

Merchants using PayPal to accept customer payment are rejoicing now, as the company started supporting Apple’s Tap to Pay option on both it’s PayPal and Venmo platforms.

Well, merchants should have an iPhone XS or later to enable this payment mode, which can accept payments from just contactless cards but also through digital wallets like Apple Pay. Also, PayPal is adding Apple Pay as one of it’s payment options to pay merchants.

Tap to Pay on PayPal and Venmo

Merchants using PayPal and Venmo can soon ditch their card readers for iPhones, as they can enable Apple’s Tap to Pay option for contactless payments. This was revealed at the Q3 earnings call today, where PayPal President and CEO Dan Schulman said;

“We’re very pleased to be working with Apple to enhance our offerings for our PayPal and Venmo merchants and consumers.”

Merchants with an iPhone XS or later can use the Tap to Pay option on their handsets to accept contactless payments – where users can pay through cards or digital wallets. Apple announced this support initially in February this year, with Stripe as it’s first partner.

In September, Jack Dorsey-led Square added this option, too, with PayPal and Venmo joining the pack now. As they’re no fees for enabling this support, merchants now have more options to choose from.

Aside from Tap to Pay support, PayPal said it’s adding Apple Pay as a payment option for all it’s payments to merchant platforms, including the PayPal Commerce Platform. Amazon has already loaded Venmo to it’s payment options – coming right before the Black Friday sale – letting people pay with their Venmo wallets easily.

Also, Apple users will be able to add their PayPal and Venmo network-branded credit cards to Apple Wallet soon and use them with Apple Pay for making payments.
