Countering TikTok’s move of an increased time limit for making short videos, Instagram announced a cap of upto 90 seconds for making Reels.
Creators on Instagram are also given the ability to import audio from any of their local videos, alongside an enhanced sound effects library. Further, there are the interactive stickers of Stories brought to Reels, and even the Polls features to let creators survey their audience.
New Features For Instagram Reels
Instagram is often criticized for copying niche features from rival platforms. Well, it did so from Snapchat and TikTok in the past but it’s also having some native features to make itself stand out. One such new feature is the ability to scoop out audio from a local video and apply it to the Reel video.
Instagram announced this support today, where creators can use the audio of any of their videos from local videos, against their Reel video. Well, the base video where creators are drawing audio should be of at least 5 seconds.
Aside from this, Instagram is enhancing the sound effects library, bringing interactive stickers from Stories to Reels including the emoji slider sticker to know the feedback from the audience with emoji reactions. Creators can also conduct Polls to survey their audience on various topics.
A major addition aside from all these is the increasing of Reels time limit from 60 seconds to 90 seconds! This may let creators be more flexible with their content, thus giving more details to viewers. TikTok on the other hand lets it’s creators make videos for upto 10 minutes!
Lastly, Instagram added Templates – a feature that lets creators sync clips with music and video easily. Once the creators select the video and audio they want to mix, tapping on this Templates feature will pre-load the content with placeholders, where creators can fill in to create their next final and best outcome.
