Omnivision OV50X 1-Inch Sensor Tipped to Debut with Xiaomi 16 Ultra

Prominent Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has provided a detailed description of the new imaging sensors that will be used in the upcoming Ultra flagships of various brands. However, the one that caught everyone’s eye is the new Omnivision OV50X sensor. This is a 1-inch type sensor which is said to debut with the  upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra.

The OV50X sensor has a high 50MP resolution, along with a good 1.6µm pixel size, which is capable of good light reception as well as low-light captures. It offers 10-bit, 12-bit and even 14-bit RGB RAW output, which grants abundant scope to post processing and keeps the dynamic range high. It is based on Omnivision PureCel Plus-S technology and has a rating of up to 110dB dynamic range, providing detailed highlights and shadows on high-contrast scenes.

As per some Industry insiders, Xiaomi 16 Ultra might be the first smartphone to unveil this powerful sensor. Xiaomi has quite a long history of using high-end camera hardware in its Ultra series, and the OV50X would only improve upon the imaging of its devices, which may become the new standard of mobile photography.

More Details

Speaking of camera specifications, previously it was leaked that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will debut with a triple camera setup, which is a major change compared to its predecessor 15 Ultra. The main 50MP will be a 1-inch sensor and a 50MP Ultrawide camera, and last but not least, a brand new 200MP periscope camera. However, this 200MP periscope is said to be the industry’s first 200MP continuous optical zoom with a cutting-edge multigroup periscope solution.

The 16 Ultra’s display is also a major change compared to the previous generation 15U, featuring a 6.8-inch 2K flat display. However, this display will have brand new technologies such as Real RGB OLED. Instead of the PenTile arrangement used in traditional OLEDs, Real RGB OLED shares each pixel into red, green, and blue sub-pixels that work without interfering with one another. Because of this design, text appears sharper and colors look more accurate, so the image quality is as good as that from top LCDs. Real RGB OLED works to overcome one of the greatest issues with OLED screens, burn-in. Because blue sub-pixels often degrade more than others, this technology’s focus maintains a better and longer working display.

The battery capacity is also getting a major upgrade, featuring >7000mAh capacity, which is an incremental upgrade from Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s 6000mAh capacity. This will be paired with 90W fast wired and 80W wireless charging.
