Xiaomi 16 Ultra to Revolutionize Mobile Photography with Industry’s First 200MP Continuous Optical Zoom

Xiaomi is set to redefine the mobile photography experience with the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra, which is rumored to feature the industry’s first 200MP continuous optical zoom. As per a famous Chinese tipster, Digital Chat Station, the device is supposed to set a new standard in smartphone cameras, which has the potential to become a breakthrough in the world of photography.

As per the tipster, Xiaomi 16 Ultra is going to integrate a 200MP big sensor and a cutting-edge multigroup periscope solution. This state-of-the-art arrangement makes the setup have optimal image strength and zoom functions that outshine the existing best available in the market. The optical zoom, especially continuous, will offer the smoothest zoom experience, which will, in turn, contribute a lot towards the versatility of the camera. This helps the user where she/he is constantly shooting at different distances as the zoom stops short of avoiding the distortion of the image, which may occur on having many zoom levels.

More Details

Speaking of camera specifications, previously it was leaked that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will debut with a triple camera setup, which is a major change compared to its predecessor 15 Ultra. The Xiaomi 16 Ultra will also preserve the 1-inch type main sensor, which will offer great low-light performance, dynamic range, and sharpness. This 1-inch sensor is made in partnership with one of China’s emerging camera sensor suppliers, SmartSens, offering wide dynamic range, better low-light photography, and a small depth of field, characteristics of professional cameras.

The 16 Ultra’s display is also a major change compared to the previous generation 15U, featuring a 6.8-inch 2K flat display. However, this display will have brand new technologies such as Real RGB OLED. Instead of the PenTile arrangement used in traditional OLEDs, Real RGB OLED shares each pixel into red, green, and blue sub-pixels that work without interfering with one another. Because of this design, text appears sharper and colors look more accurate, so the image quality is as good as that from top LCDs. Real RGB OLED works to overcome one of the greatest issues with OLED screens, burn-in. Because blue sub-pixels often degrade more than others, this technology’s focus maintains a better and longer working display.

The battery capacity is also getting a major upgrade, featuring >7000mAh capacity, which is an incremental upgrade from Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s 6000mAh capacity. This will be paired with 90W fast wired and 80W wireless charging technology.

Launch Timeline

Xiaomi Group President, Mr Lu Weibing, has already teased Xiaomi 16 Ultra, saying it will be a new ‘height of imaging’. We can expect it to get released as early as January or February of next year.
