Xiaomi is preparing to release its next generation of flagship smartphones, powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 ( previously 8 Elite 2) chipset, which will be part of the Xiaomi 16 Series. There have been several leaks of this line-up in the past that we have covered. Xiaomi 16 Series currently has four different models named Xiaomi 16, Xiaomi 16 Pro, Xiaomi 16 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 16 Ultra. However, the 16 Ultra will be launched next year, leaving other devices in the line-up for a September launch.
Recently, all three devices coming next month have passed China’s 3C certification site. The certification also revealed that all three phones will support fast 100W wired charging, which is a slight upgrade from the previous 90W charging in the predecessors.

Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro will feature a compact 6.36-inch 1.5k flat display, whereas the Pro Max variant will opt for a bigger 6.8-inch 2k display. All series will have a new Real RGB OLED screen and LIPO technology. In terms of design, there is another major distinction between the Xiaomi Pro and Pro Max phones. The 16 Pro Max will also feature a secondary screen on the back, which is a major highlight of the smartphone.
The 16 Series will also feature a triple 50MP + 50MP + 50MP camera system on all models except Ultra. However, the base Xiaomi 16 will have a 50MP Floating Telephoto lens, whereas the Pro and Pro Max will feature 50MP Periscope sensors. Another key difference between the base and Pro series is that the main camera of the base 16 is an Omnivision sensor, whereas the Pro series will feature a SmartSens sensor. And of course, the entire line-up will be co-engineered with Leica. The front camera is also a major upgrade, featuring a 50MP selfie camera with AutoFocus.
The battery capacity is also a major upgrade in this generation, with Xiaomi 16 featuring a 7000mAh battery, Xiaomi 16 Pro with a 6300mAh battery, and the bigger Xiaomi 16 Pro Max with a 7500mAh battery. All these large batteries are paired with fast 100W wired and 50W wireless charging technology.
So overall, the Xiaomi 16 Series will get major changes in the optical hardware and design, and battery. And the entire series will be powered by the brand new Xiaomi HyperOs 3, which was just launched, taking the experience to the next level.
