Xiaomi is in full preparation to release its most anticipated smartphone of the Xiaomi 17 Series, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra by the end of this year in China. Recently, Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station shared some new exciting details about this upcoming beast. As per him, the smartphone is set to feature a multispectral sensor and a zoom flash, along with a revolutionary physical zoom mechanism that could redefine smartphone photography standards.
The multispectral sensor is designed to improve color accuracy and white balance by capturing more light and color data from multiple spectrums. This results in more natural tones and sharper image details, especially in challenging lighting conditions. The highlight, however, is the new physical zoom feature. Unlike traditional digital or hybrid zoom systems, this innovation uses real optical physical zoom attachments to alter focal lengths physically. This allows for lossless zoom across multiple focal ranges, offering superior detail retention at higher focal lengths.
Additionally, the zoom flash feature is said to intelligently adjust its beam according to the focal length, ensuring balanced exposure whether shooting wide or zoomed-in shots.
More Details
Since the imaging is the main highlight of this smartphone, let’s start with the camera specifications. Xiaomi 17 Ultra has undergone major changes in its optics. The smartphone will feature a triple camera setup with a brand new Omnivision OV50X sensor. The OV50X sensor has a high 50MP resolution, along with a good 1.6µm pixel size, which is capable of good light reception as well as low-light captures. It offers 10-bit, 12-bit, and even 14-bit RGB RAW output, and an impressive 110dB dynamic range. Complementing this massive main camera is the industry’s first 200MP 1/1.4 inch sensor, continuous optical zoom with a cutting-edge multigroup periscope solution, and a 50MP JN5 ultrawide camera. The selfie camera is also an upgraded 50MP OV50M sensor.
However, it’s worth mentioning that there are some contradictory theories about the camera setup of the 17 Ultra. As per some reports, it might feature a quad camera set-up with an additional 50MP JN5 3x telephoto sensor, but nothing is concrete as of now.
The 17 Ultra’s display is also a major change compared to the previous generation 15U, featuring a 6.9-inch 2K flat display. However, this display will have brand new technologies such as Real RGB OLED. Instead of the PenTile arrangement used in traditional OLEDs, Real RGB OLED shares each pixel into red, green, and blue sub-pixels that work without interfering with one another. Because of this design, text appears sharper and colors look more accurate, so the image quality is as good as that from top LCDs. Real RGB OLED works to overcome one of the greatest issues with OLED screens, burn-in. Because blue sub-pixels often degrade more than others, this technology’s focus maintains a better and longer working display.
The battery capacity is also getting a major upgrade, featuring 6800mAh capacity, which is an incremental upgrade from Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s 6000mAh capacity. This will be paired with 100W fast wired and 80W wireless charging.
