It is the most awaited prequel of the legendary television drama Game of thrones that focuses on the house of Targaryen. Along with thrilling dragons, the fierce characters of women in the show are also ruling the hearts.
The fans of Game of thrones wanted something larger than life, and it can be said that House of Dragon is on it’s way to meeting all the expectations of the fans. Not only that, but the show is also precisely meeting the standards of GOT. There were several kingdoms’ fans who were introduced to the legendary show, but HBO targeted the least risky realm, the Targaryen dynasty, in the first spin-off, and it is already clear that it is going to be about women and how they become the mastercards of the realm. The show also ensures these female characters with more agency than several other females in the fantasy genre.
Though critics are delighted to see how they are using the psyche of these characters, it is not clear whether the characters are good or bad or whether they should be addressed as goddesses or evils, and that is why it is becoming more attractive. This hazy fog that the directors, or better say, the writer, created around every female character is what is praised by critics. The women in the story are brutal and complicated at the same time, and they are also messed up with their own greed, emotions, dreams, and satisfaction. The biggest plus point of this saga is that it does not try to show the women as perfect as none of them are. They make mistakes that can shake their lives, and also, the show allows them to be mean.
In Game of Thrones, we are introduced to the queen, who was later the mother of the king. She was impatient and had a lack of self-control. She tried to establish her own power over the Identity and safety of the realm. We can compare her with Medea from Greek mythology. Her anger is either extremely scary and can destroy anyone in seconds or it is funny. There is nothing in between. She should not only be addressed as an angry woman, but she was complex and the holder of mysteries that were deep as the sea. Here, we are talking about Cersei Lannister. The wife of the king who has her own fantasies, and most of them are dark, darker than the night with no moon. She has the power to fulfill her revenge, and her rage is terrifying.

She can burn villages to ashes, and turn civilizations into corpses, just to protect her children. It is wise to say that the worst thing anyone can do is to make a mother angry and become a threat to her children, as no one can cause more damage than an angry mother. It was clear to Tyrion when he became the prisoner of Catelyn Stark. Cat was also ready to do anything to protect her children, and we had also seen this when she did several unbelievable things to protect her daughters, especially Jaime.
Talking about mothers, how the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen can be avoided. She was Queen of the Andals and the First Men, protector of the Seven Kingdoms, and the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea. She broke all the chains of stereotypes, and also she became the most cherished character of the Game of Thrones. She is someone who can love her children with all of her heart, but also she holds power to turn everything into ashes or to break the chains that have been there for thousands of years. The word mother is not only related to blood bond, but it is also related to the bond of love which made her the mother of dragons. She lost the ability to give birth to human children, but that did not stop her from being a mother. She was not only the queen or the conqueror, but she was also the mother to all.
Let’s not avoid Olenna Tyrell, who was an amazing mother figure to her grandchildren and her son. She killed Joffrey to save Margaery from being his wife and being tortured for a lifetime. She also made allies with Daenerys to avenge her grandchildren. Mothers in Game of thrones have the rage that fathers do not, making Game of thrones an epic as it reflects the truth of life. Yes. It is true that mothers can do literally anything to save their children.
The House Of Dragons
Now, let’s come to the house of dragons that is winning everyone’s hearts nowadays. It is also the story of women’s rage and mothers’ rage. It gets the peak when Alicent’s second-born, Aemond, kills Rhaenyra’s second-born, fourteen-year-old Lucerys, in the battle over Shipbreaker’s Bay. Later in the story, Alicent’s grandchild and heir are apparent to her son, Aegon II. The whole incident traumatizes his mother and younger brother for life.
Without giving more spoilers about the House of Dragon, it can be said that it is a story of the rage of two women, the queen, Alicent, and Princess Rhaenyra. The house of Dragon is a story that has several key female characters such as Rhaenys, who is addressed as the Queen who never was, Mysaria, the Mistress of Whisperers; Alys Rivers, the Witch Queen of Harrenhal; and Nettles, the dragonseed.
House of Dragons focuses more on the power of women’s rage compared to Game of thrones. Both Rhaenyra and Alicent are in charge of their every action, and each of them can go to any limit to claim what’s hers. None of the women are afraid to kill, torture, or do anything she needs to get her work done. They are not only powerful enough to conquer, but also they are unapologetic for all their doings. They are extremely irrational and can do anything for their rights and children.
In a world full of cruelty, the women embrace their rage instead of suppressing it. Sansa and Arya Stark were ruthless and amazing fighters as well. We understood why they needed to survive in Westeros. It is a time when women need to understand their rights and fight for them. House of Dragons is the perfect example of women can both build and destroy. Thanks to these shows on television where angry women or women with rage are no longer misunderstood or underestimated. Instead of that, their complexions are getting unleashed, and we are experiencing their rage without being critics.
Conclusion:
Game of thrones failed every female character, especially Daenerys Targaryen, just to meet audiences’ expectations. Also, it sidelined Cersei. It’s not going to happen with House of Dragons, as it is the ultimate tragedy that HBO and the audience need to get over what game of thrones did with the powerful and complex female characters.
