The iOS 12 upgrade came with an interesting feature that lets you add an alternate face to your smartphone. Once registered and activated both faces can be used to access your phone. If you are willing to share your mobile with someone close to you, then you use this feature. Keep reading to know more about how can you add multiple faces to face id and share your phone with them.
Follow the steps below to register two faces on iOS 12:
-
Go to Face ID and Passcode
- From the Home Screen go to Settings
- Tap on Face ID & Passcode to open the page
-
Set the Passcode
Ensure that the Turn Passcode On option on the Face ID & Passcode screen is turned on
The device will prompt you to enter a passcode; you will be prompted to re-enter it. You can also use the new passcode to change your Apple ID from the iPhone that you are using. This is, however, just an option not a compulsory step.
If you don’t add a passcode to their phone, then you will not be able to complete the process of adding a Face ID to your phone. The device uses this as a back-up when it is unable to detect your face sometimes.
Once the passcode is set the device will go back to the Face ID & Passcode window.
-
Register the First Face ID
On the Face ID & Passcode page tap on Set Up Face ID to begin the process of registering the first face on your device.
Move your face in circles while you are looking at the screen. Once the process is completed tap on Done when prompted. This will again bring you back to the Face ID & Passcode window.
The phone now grants access to the face that has been registered on it.
-
Register the Second Face ID to use iOS 12 Multiple Face ID
- On the Face ID & Passcode window tap on Set Up an Alternate Appearance. The process needs to be repeated as you did while registering for the first face. Once the face is registered, you can tap on Done. You will now be taken back to the Face ID & Passcode window.
- Your iPhone now has two faces registered.
- The second person who has registered their face on the iPhone can also use to unlock the phone using the Face ID feature.
You can now exit the Settings screen and try unlocking the phone to check if the feature is working accurately. If you ever wish to remove the second Face ID registered on your phone, you cannot do it. You need to tap on Reset Face ID which will remove both the faces that have been registered on the device. You can now follow the above process to set up a new Face ID on for your phone once again – Skip the 4th step to add just one iOS 12 face ID.
