Reports are available on the Sonos sub-Reddit as well as many other forums, including the Sonos Community. So without further ado, let’s discuss the possible solutions to resolve the Sonos Sub not Connecting problem.

How to Resolve Sonos Sub not Connecting Issue

Sonos Sub not connecting

There are lots of reasons why your subwoofer won’t connect to other audio system devices or produce any output it’s entitled to. Some possible causes are network lag, not connecting to WiFi or not connecting to the same WiFi network. You may use the wrong connection if the system is not getting the right power to support the output. Here are some possible solutions to fix the Sonos Sub not Connecting problem.

Solution 1: Connect to the correct network

It is also possible that you have connected your Sonos Sub to the wrong network. Since multiple networks will be available, you should make sure that you have connected your secondary device to your home network.

Solution 2: Restart your router

Often, your connection may time out, which could prevent one of your smart devices from connecting to your router. When this happens, the safest thing you can do is to quickly reboot your router.

Though in your case we recommend doing a full power cycle. To do this, you need to power off the router for about 30-60 seconds. As soon as the time is up, you can try to turn your router back on.

Solution 3: Check the Ethernet cable

If you have connected your Sub via an Ethernet cable, the first thing you need to check is if the connection is secure. Make sure the Ethernet cable is fully plugged into the Sonos Sub as well as the router.

If possible, try connecting the cable to any other port and see if that helps your case. Alternatively, you can try using any other Ethernet cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.

Solution 4: Fix the network loop

You get a full set of Sonos speakers with a subwoofer to connect and enhance your music experience. Normally, the main Sonos speaker must be connected to the router using a wired Ethernet cable while the other devices will stick to the wireless signal from the main speaker.

However, there is a case where a network loop occurs when the user tries to pair all the speaker devices with the router or uses the wireless connection between each speaker device to connect several other devices. Simply put, you are trying to connect the subwoofer to the rest of the devices by making a dual connection for each device.

This may cause problems with the connection or operation of the subwoofer. Follow the steps listed down below to fix the network loop:-

Step 1: Disconnect all speaker systems from each other and the router.

Step 2: Now, use an Ethernet cable and connect it to the main speaker.

Step 3: Enable Wi-Fi on the main speaker to allow the speaker to communicate wirelessly with other systems. Here, the main speaker is connected to each device and there is no connection between the secondary devices.

Step 4: Continue to turn off Wi-Fi on all subnets.

Solution 5: Make sure all cables and connections are correct

You cannot plug in wires from one speaker to another unless otherwise specified. The connections between the power supply and the speakers and subsystems must be made properly to ensure that everything is working properly.

If you use the wrong wire connected to the wrong port, you will have a messy system that doesn’t work. Depending on the Sonos products you use, get help from YouTube to find the right connections and use them to hook up your system. This will at least ensure that the connections are laid out correctly, eliminating that part of the problem.

Solution 6: Verify that the system is plugged in

I’m pretty sure this may not be the solution you’re looking for, but there might be a small group of users who ended up with a Sonos subwoofer that didn’t work because they wired it up the wrong way and the power electricity is not enough. Either way, if you want to get rid of the wrong wiring to the system, unplug everything and use the manual or YouTube on how to properly connect the Sonos system. Check if this method works, if not, you can continue to other solutions.

Solution 7: Not Connecting to Playbar

If you’re trying to wirelessly connect a Sonos subwoofer to the soundbar but the soundbar won’t connect, this method can help. Follow the steps listed down below to connect to Playbar:_

Step 1: Connect the playback bar and subwoofer with a LAN cable to the router.

Step 2: Set up the system on the Sonos app.

Step 3: Next, go to the router’s administrative settings and configure the static IP address.

Step 4: Now, find the MAC address of your subwoofer and playback stick.

Step 5: Go to router settings and set DHCP to automatic and change the current IP address to a static IP address on both devices.

Step 6: Access the Sonos app on your phone.

Step 7: Next, go to Settings.

Step 8: Go to advanced settings.

Step 9: Next, select Wireless Setup.

Step 10: Now, you need to configure the wireless settings of your Sonos system (Playbar and Sub, in this case)

Step 11: Remove the LAN cable and check if it fixes the problem.

(Note– that depending on the sub you are using, the method may differ slightly and it’s effectiveness may also vary. You can try it although there is no guarantee that it will solve 100% of the cases with a guarantee.)

Solution 8: Reset Sonos Sub

Another thing you can do with the Sonos Sub is reset it. This will delete any settings you may have previously stored on your device. Therefore, any misconfiguration or error that could lead to connection problems should be rectified.

If you are unsure about how to reset your Sonos Sub, we recommend that you read the user manual. Simply unplug the power cord and hold the button on your device while plugging the power cord back in.

Solution 9: Contact support

If nothing works for you, the only other thing that you can safely try regarding the Sub is to contact support. They need to know why you are having connection problems and what you can try to fix.

However, this still requires your full cooperation as you will need to answer some questions from the support team. Once you’ve done that, they’ll be able to suggest other solutions you can try.
