Launched on July 21 this month, the Nord from OnePlus is a mid-tier segment smartphone that has been gathering some hype. Will the smartphone be able to deliver a satisfying experience? Let us dive into some details of OnePlus Nord.
Design
OnePlus sticks to a similar design for Nord as it has for its previous smartphones. However, it definitely feels premium on-touch and offers a perfect grip when holding it. For now, it is available in two color variants – Gray Onyx and Blue Marble with the latter having a more appealing look. It features an all-glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on front and back. The has a plastic frame and uses a Type-C port for headphones and power connection. It is a dual SIM phone and the company says it may withstand splashes of water.
Display
You get a 6.44 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels in this phone. It offers an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a refresh rate of 90Hz. However, the refresh rate does cause the battery juices to drain a bit faster and you might consider changing it to 60Hz. The colors are calming to the eyes and playing games or watching a movie would be a delight on this screen. Sunlight legibility and viewing angles are perfect.
Software
The phone runs OxygenOS10.5, which is based on Android 10.0, and the UI is pretty clean as it doesn’t feature any unnecessary tools. OnePlus Nord is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G processor along with Adreno 620 GPU. The company has offered to provide security upgrades for the next 3 years and Android updates for the next 2 years. There are 3 variants of phone in terms of storage option, 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage.
Performance
Multitasking is fair on OnePlus Nord. You will not face problems when playing games, but when it comes to playing heavy games then you do face some lags. The device also gets a bit heated when playing games but doesn’t affect the performance of the phone.
Camera
There are 6 cameras on Nord – 2 in the front and 4 cameras on the rear. The two cameras in the front are with a 32 MP main camera and 8 MP for ultra-wide-angle. There is a 48 MP main camera on the rear and the other cameras are 8 MP for ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP macro camera, and 5 MP depth sensor. The optical stabilization is great and there are many filters and modes that add to the camera’s worth.
Battery
It features a 4115 mAh battery with WarpCharge 30T fast charging. Nord charges completely in an hour. With mixed usage of browsing, talking, texting, and playing some games, the battery will last you for an entire day.
For its price range, OnePlus is offering pretty good features. The performance is fairly good and does offer some competition to other smartphones existing in the market available in the same price range.
