What is the “A Connection Error Occurred Elden Ring” Issue?

Elder Ring is an amazing game, but sadly, it comes with many errors. The connection error prompt is one of those, and it can occur if you try to use your summon sign or join your sessions. This can stop you from playing the game online. Players have also reported that they encounter this issue when trying to help someone with a boss fight.

There is no exact reason for facing this Elden Ring connection error, as this can be due to several reasons, such as a low internet connection or a server glitch. No matter why you are facing this issue, here we have mentioned some troubleshooting methods that can help you to solve this issue.

How To Fix Elden Ring Connection Error

Here we have mentioned the probable troubleshooting methods to solve this issue that you can follow. Let’s start.

Method 1: Try to forward the ports for better connectivity

Sometimes, your internet connection can be the main culprit, and that’s why you can try to forward the ports of your internet router to increase your internet connection’s speed. Here are the ports you should check to ensure that you have no issues because of a poor internet connection.

UDP: 27015, 27031, 27032, 27033, 27034, 27035, 27036.

TCP: 27015, 27036.

Besides that, you can also check whether your device’s aforementioned ports are already forwarded or not.

After checking all these things mentioned above, you should also check whether the Windows firewall is treating the ports as any kind of threat or not. If this happens, it can affect your connection. Here we have discussed how to check it and prevent the Windows firewall from treating the ports as a threat.

  • First, go to the Windows defender firewall from the start menu of Windows.
  • Then, continue by choosing the advanced settings option that you can see in the sidebar left of the Windows defender firewall window.
  • Now, the Windows defender firewall with advanced security will open on your computer screen.
  • Select outbound rules from the sidebar and click on the “new rule” option available on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Select port and then click on the next button
  • Now, here you have to select the protocol of port that you are willing to outbound rule for. We’ve already mentioned the ports that you should choose. It is better to start with the UDP ports and repeat the same process with TCP ports.
  • Click on the next button
  • Now, click on the toggle corresponding to allow the connection and select the next button to continue.
  • You’ll need to apply the rule to all three profile types and click on the next button.
  • Lastly, set a name for the outbound rule and complete the process by clicking on the finish button.
  • Now check if the error is resolved or not.

Method 2: Run Elden Ring and Steam as admin

Another reason for the issue is if you are not running Steam and the game as an administrator. If you are not already doing that, you will need to do it to get rid of several issues. Below are the steps for that:

  • First, press the Windows key and type Steam.
  • Right-click on steam and click on the open file location option.
  • A window will be opened on your screen where you have to right-click on Steam.exe followed by clicking on the properties option.
  • Here, you will find the compatibility tab where you have to check the run as administrator option and click on the applied button.

Once you get the administrative rights for Steam, as the next step, you will need to get the administrative rights to the specific file of Elden Rings. Here we have mentioned how you can do that below.

  • Go to the direction mentioned here  C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS
  • The file should be stored in this folder; if it is not, you will need to search for it in your file explorer.
  • After you find the file, you have to right-click on it and select the properties option.
  • You’ll find the compatibility tab here, check the run as administrator option and click on the apply button to save the changes.

Method 3: Enable a VPN

Some players have confirmed that they have solved the issue by enabling the VPN service. This issue can occur due to the locality from where you are playing the game. A VPN software can efficiently change your location, and the issue can be solved if you keep your VPN turned on while playing the game.

Method 4: Switch to the Google DNS Setting

Both Windows and the console can have a default DNS setting that often causes problems with online games. So, to fix this issue, try to switch to Google DNS settings, as it is less problematic. Here is how to do that:

If you are playing on a PC

  • First, open your Windows settings by simultaneously pressing the Windows key + I from your keyboard.
  • Now, click on the network and internet option and then click on the change adapter settings option.

  • Here, you will find a list of some items from which you have to click on internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
  • Click on properties followed by clicking on the use the following DNS server addresses option.

In the preferred DNS server section, type

  • Click the OK button to save the settings and reboot your system.

If you are using Xbox One

  • First, when you are on your home screen, press the Xbox button to open the game menu on your screen.

  • Here, you will need to type 8.8.8.8 in the primary DNS option and 8.8.4.4 in the secondary DNS option.

Once you change your DNS settings, you will need to flush your DNS to ensure that the cache built-up that belongs to your previous DNS server is cleared. Follow the steps here to flush your DNS.

  • First, press the Windows key and type cmd.
  • Now, open the command prompt as an administrator, and when the command prompt appears on your screen, type ipconfig /flushdns.
  • Press the enter key and wait until the process is complete.
  • Once it is done, you will see a message prompt on your screen “Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.”
  • Now, close the command prompt and restart your PC and check whether the issue is solved or not.

Method 5: Change your NAT Type

If you’re playing Elden Ring on a console, you must make sure that your network address translation or NAT settings are set to open. If it is not, it will not allow your console to connect to the online servers. You’ll need to ensure that, and to do that, follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First, go to the network settings of your console and then click on the test internet connection option.
  • By entering into this option, you will be able to see what your NAT type is.
  • You can easily change your NAT type to open by heading to your router’s settings page simply by using your browser. Make sure to enable the UPnP option while doing that.

Note that to open your router’s settings page, you will need to enter its default gateway or IP address in the search bar section of your browser. If you have forgotten your IP address or don’t know that, here we have mentioned how you can easily find it.

  • First, press the Windows key and then type cmd.
  • Now, open the command prompt as an administrator and type the following command –

ipconfig

  • Ensure to press the enter key after doing so, and then you will need to scroll down to the Ethernet adapter section and copy the default gateway or IP address.
  • Now, you can simply post this address on your browser’s search bar and press the enter key.
  • You will be taken to the login page of your router’s settings, and here you will need to enter the username and password of your router. If you have forgotten the username and password, you can simply search “(router model) default Username and Password” on Google.
  • After opening your router’s setting page, look for the option of UPnP Configuration and enable it.
  • Now, go back to your console and click on the test internet connection option again.
  • Your NAT type should now be set to open.
