Snapchat has recently been quite a favorite app for a number of people, particularly when it comes to maintaining privacy and using cameras. This article teaches you how to back up camera roll to Snapchat. Snapchat backs up all the photos automatically saved in the Snaps folder in memory. If you want to add images from the camera roll to the folder that is backed up, you may export them as your Story, and later save the Story rather than sharing it on Snapchat. This is quite easy to perform on iPad, iPhone, or Android. Snapchat, by default, does not back up the camera roll. So, when there are no buttons or settings, figuring out the process of inserting roll images into Snapchat might seem quite troublesome. To get it done, you need to post stories from your camera roll to save them on Snapchat, which is quite a tiring thing. Here we have come up with some tricks that will not require you to post stories.
Things to remember
- Your camera roll is not backed up automatically by Snapchat, but you may back it up at any time by adding videos or photos to Memories.
- Tap the Memories icon on Android, select “Camera Roll” and then select your content, and after that, export the content to your Snapchat Memories.
- Open your Memories on iPad or iPhone, select “Camera Roll”, and then select your content to create a story. Items in your story are now saved to the memories.
How to back up camera roll to Snapchat
Android:
On your tablet or phone open Snapchat. You will see an icon in yellow showing a white ghost inside. You will see that Snapchat is opening to the camera screen.
Next, tap on the Memories icon. At the bottom of your screen, you will see the two overlapping images exactly to the left of the shutter button.
Next, tap the Camera Roll. This tap is displayed at the top of your memories screen. Though you can view the camera roll on Snapchat, you will notice that at the top, there is a message that says that Snapchat does not back up your camera roll.
Then, you must tap and hold on to the images you wish to back up to Snapchat Memories. When you have tapped and held an image, you will see a menu expanding at the bottom, and the checkmark will appear on the image thumbnail. If you wish to back up images more than once to add checkmarks, you need to tap other image thumbnails.
Next, tap on the Export icon. It will be displayed as the sideways V having three dots on the bottom of your screen.
On the menu, tap the Snapchat icon. This will display the images that have been selected though you are going to post your Story. You need not worry. You will not have to share these images publicly.
At the bottom of your image, Tap Save
Next select Save to Memories. As the images have been saved to your camera roll already, you only wish to save them now to Memories. This will back up your selected images to your Memories in the Snaps folder. At the top, tap the X to minimize the image.
To view your backed-up images, you need to tap the Snaps tab. It is available the upper-left corner. In this folder, all images are backed up automatically to Snapchat. Even if you reinstall or delete Snapchat, you will see that your images are in this folder.
iPad or iPhone:
On your tablet or phone open Snapchat. You will see an icon in yellow showing a white ghost inside. You will see that Snapchat is opening to the camera screen.
Next, tap on the Memories icon. By the bottom of your screen, you will see the two overlapping images exactly to the left of the shutter button.
Next, tap the Camera Roll, the tab displayed at the top of your memories screen. Though you can view the camera roll in Snapchat, you will notice that at the top, there is a message that says that Snapchat does not back up your camera roll.
Then, tap and hold on to the images you wish to back up to the Snapchat Memories. When you have tapped and held an image, you will see that a menu is expanding at the bottom, and the checkmark will appear on the image thumbnail. If you wish to back up images more than one, you need to tap other image thumbnails to add checkmarks.
Next, tap More. At the bottom of your phone screen, you will see three horizontal dots.
Tap on Create Story. You need not worry. Actually, you won’t have to share these images with your Story. This is a trick for backing them up to the Snaps folder.
At the bottom, tap Save story. It is present below the list of images that you have selected. If you see that your keyboard hides it, you just need to swipe on these images to close the keyboard. When you see the ‘Save story’ button disappearing, your images will be saved in your Memories to the Snaps folder. At the top-left, tap on the down arrow to minimize the images.
To view your backed-up images, tap the Snaps. It is available in your upper-left corner. In this folder, all images are backed up automatically to Snapchat. Even when you reinstall or delete Snapchat, your images will stay in this folder.
Check the progress of your back-up
Now that you have backed up from your camera roll, you will see that your images appear in the snaps. From your Memories settings, you will be able to check the status of the backup progress. Your phone should either have a stable Wi-Fi connection or a strong cellular service to back up memories fully. Follow the steps that will guide you in checking the progress of Memories Backup on Android and iPhone:
- First, open Profile and then navigate to Settings
- Next, tap on Memories
- Then find Backup Progress
- Check whether it is saying Complete
- When there isn’t any need to back up the memories, the backup progress will show Complete. When your memories are not backed up fully, it will show #Snaps or No Internet Connection
Steps to turning on Smart Backup
When your Back up progress is not showing Complete, you need to turn Smart Backup on. It will back up your memories automatically. On your cellular data over any unstable Wi-Fi connection, Smart Backup will back up your memories automatically. So, no need to worry about getting it removed whilst you are uninstalling Snapchat and reinstalling it again. You may follow the steps mentioned below when you have not turned on the Smart Backup on Snapchat. It is applicable for both Android and iPhone:
- First open your Profile and then tap on Settings
- Next, tap on Memories
- Find Smart Backup, under Storage
- To turn it on, Switch the toggle
