A Smartphone offers more than just calling, messaging, and using the internet. You can also use it for connecting it to other devices, exchanging document and media files. Using certain functions such as Bluetooth, Mobile Hotspot, etc. requires the use of your Phone Name. Every Smartphone that is manufactured always comes with its Phone Name. The Phone Name is usually the company and the model name clubbed together in some form of short form when they are made available in the market after it is manufactured.
Users have the option to change the Phone Name to something they would like to be discovered as. Find Out the Phone Name
Before you can change the Phone Name of your Android device you must first learn where the Phone Name can be found.
Go to Settings of your Android device
Scroll and tap on About Phone
In the About Phone screen, you will find the Phone Name along with other information of your phone such as model number, IMEI number, phone number, etc.
Note: The above steps are applicable for users using Android 10. If you are using a different version of Android (Android 9 or 8) then you would have to follow an additional step:
Go to Settings
Scroll and tap on System
On this screen, you will find About Phone
In the About Phone screen, you will find the Phone Name along with other information of your phone such as model number, IMEI number, phone number, etc.
Change the Phone Name of Android Device
Now that you have the Phone Name, you can custom change the name to a name as you desire. Here is what you need to do:
Go to Settings of your Android device
Scroll and tap on About Phone
In the About Phone screen, you will find the Phone Name (these steps are the same as we used them to check the Phone Name. Remember to add an additional step if you are an Android 9 or 8 user)
Just below the Phone Name, you will find the Edit button
Tap on Edit and the factory default name will be highlighted, giving you an option to change the name
Make changes to the name and then tap on Done
Exit the screen
To make sure that the changes have taken place you can try using your Bluetooth or Wi-Fi direct to see if the new Phone Name comes up in place of the old one.
Some Points to Remember:
Changing the Phone Name doesn’t change any data, connection or affect the performance of your Android phone. It is completely safe to change the Phone Name. You are simply changing the identity of the phone you are using.
It is much easier to recognize your phone if it has a custom name. This is especially when you are with a group of people (friends, family, or colleagues) where everyone is trying to exchange videos or pictures or play songs and more than two or three people in the room have the same Android phone.
