Phone storage is important to save files, data, and other important things. Not only that, but if your phone has full storage, it will affect the functionality of your phone, and some of your applications will keep stopping. A phone with full storage can keep hanging, and even sometimes, it can restart on its own. If you are also suffering from the issue, here are 7 essential tips for you to free up storage on your phone.

let’s start.

7 tips to free up storage on your phone:

Get rid of apps you don’t use often

If there is any application in your phone that you don’t need often or don’t even remember when you used it for the last time, get rid of it. You don’t have to put pressure on your brain as your phone can do it independently. You just have to follow some steps. Here is how to do that.

For iPhone users:

Go to the ‘Settings’ app

Tap on ‘General’

Select ‘iPhone Storage

Enable the option to ‘Offload Unused Apps’.

It will delete unused apps automatically when the storage is full.

For Android users:

Open ‘Play Store’

Tap on the menu icon

Select ‘My apps & games’

Go to ‘Installed’

Tap on the icon with three lines

Select ‘Last used’ instead of ‘Alphabetical.

You’ll be able to see the apps you haven’t used in a while. Manually uninstall those by selecting ‘Uninstall’.

Identify the big files

You have to identify what files are using most of your storage and whether they are still useful to you or not. If not, delete them. You can go to the storage section of your phone to see which files are taking big spaces and delete them if not needed.

Free up your WhatsApp storage

Every WhatsApp user knows that WhatsApp storage occupies a huge part in phone storage. It includes hundreds of unwanted photos, videos, and files. To free up this space, follow the below steps.

iPhone:

Go to the ‘Settings’ tab

Select ‘Chats’

Disable the ‘Save to Camera Roll’ option.

You’ll now be able to see all the WhatsApp images and delete the unwanted ones.

Android:

Go to Settings,’

Head towards ‘Chats,’

Tap the toggle by ‘Media visibility and turn the option off.

You’ll be able to look for unwanted photos from here.

If you are looking to delete other big WhatsApp files, simply go to your device’s storage and data section and head towards “manage storage”. From there, you can select multiple items at once.

Delete downloaded movies and shows

If you are one of those people who love to watch downloaded movies on your phone, you have to delete previously downloaded movies, series, and podcasts to free up space as all of them are large files. Make sure to delete the movies after watching them.

Delete your old messages from the default message app

Nowadays, people don’t usually use the default messaging app of the device. But you must delete the spam and useless messages in a while. You’ll be surprised to know that cleaning your phone’s default messaging app will allow you to free up a good amount of storage space on your phone.

Clear your app caches

It is important to clean all caches to free up storage in your device. The cache is, in simple words, the files stored by your device for future records whenever you use any app. Though this doesn’t occupy a huge space, it will help you free up more than 100 MB in your storage. Clean the cache by getting into the phone “storage and memory”. Follow the below steps for that:

Android:

  • Go to settings
  • Go to Apps & notifications and then See all apps’
  • Then head towards Storage & cache
  • And lastly, tap ‘Clear cache’

The app cache would be deleted.

Apple users don’t have the facility to delete app caches.

Clean your photo gallery thoroughly

Your photo gallery is the area on your device that usually occupies most of the storage space. Though this process is time-consuming, you must delete old, unnecessary, and duplicate photos and videos from your device to free up space. You can remove the entire albums of “screenshots” and “WhatsApp gifs” and “recently deleted”.
