It is also suggested not to use the emergency override option. Depending on how wet your phone is, you can continue using your phone while the charging port is drying, but if it is really wet, here are some troubleshooting methods that you can try to avoid any further damage.

Use a towel

Quickly grab a towel and wipe out any visible water from the phone’s surface. You can also fold your phone into the towel so that it can dry up.

Turn your phone off

It is not the water that can damage your phone but the shorting issue that causes more damage in the long run. There is an electric charge in your phone, and the issue can occur if it collides with water. It is always advised to turn your phone off while your phone is drying up. It can save your phone from further damage.

Remove your SIM cards and if possible, remove the battery too

Your SIM cards are extremely important to make your phone usable as it holds all the unique information for network communication and more. If your SIM cards are damaged, you can have a lot of trouble. Not only are the SIM cards are extremely important, but also they are extremely fragile and developed by using complex and delicate electronics. Just a few drops of water can damage your SIM cards, so if your phone is exposed to a good amount of water, we advise you to remove your sim cards first.

Though most smartphones nowadays come with inbuilt batteries that are not removable, if your phone battery is removable, you should remove it when your phone is wet. Batteries are also delicate parts of smartphones, and that’s why you can reduce the chances of damage by removing the batteries.

Use a drier

You should be very aware while using this troubleshooting method. You can just blow cool air to allow your charging port to dry. If you have a vacuum cleaner, you can configure the settings and make your vacuum cleaner blow air outside. You can even get a blow dryer, but ensure the setting is set to cool. Do not try this method if your blow dryer only blows hot air. Wait for a few hours, and your charging port should be dry.

Things to avoid when your charging port is wet

  • Avoid using any kind of heat source, such as hot air, a rice drum, or any other hack you have seen on social media in which you will need to use a heat source.
  • Do not try to charge your phone up when your phone charging port is wet. It can damage your phone badly.
  • Do not put anything inside the charging port to dry it up, such as tissues or napkins.

Should you get worried if your phone is water resistant?

Nowadays, most handsets are water resistant, but it doesn’t mean your smartphone cannot encounter any kind of liquid damage. It just means that your phone can automatically disable any kind of charging connector when it detects any liquid in it. Though your phone is water resistant, you cannot use your corded charger when your phone charging port is wet.

Note – All these troubleshooting methods should be used if your phone is too wet. But if your smartphone has been exposed to only a few drops of water, you don’t need to worry and can continue using your phone just after cleaning the surface.
