RAR files are the most common form of archived file format. It is used for reducing the size of the overall and even bundle together all the files into one folder. People use it extensively on the internet for high data transmission and sharing.

Opening RAR files on Mac OS
Mac operating system does not come with a utility that can open RAR files. It can open ZIP files but not RAR files. If you want to open RAR files, you will have to download a third party application. There are a lot many options of third-party applications you can choose from, but the one which is the easiest and most recommended one is ‘Unarchiver’.
What is ‘Unarchiver’?
It is a free and a small application which is easy to use and un-archives many different kinds of archive files. It is an open source application that supports formats such as Zip, RAR, 7-zip, and Tar too.
The steps to use Unarchiver are mentioned below:
- Download it and install it.
You can find it in the Mac store or you can directly go the Unarchiver website and get it from there. It is more recommended to download it from the site rather than going for the Mac store.
- Open the RAR file(s).
Open the RAR file you want to use
Just drag and drop the RAR file into the Unarchiver app’s icon or you can right click on the RAR file and click on the option open with and choose Unarchiver app. The Unarchiver will extract the compressed files into the same folder.
Now you can use your files the same way you use your other files.
