Many Samsung users would like to disable the voice assistant Bixby because of the location of the button which enables it. The Bixby launch button is situated right below the volume control button and leads to accidental presses which launch the voice assistant frequently. It takes one some time to get used to this setting. The Bixby button has been dedicatedly made to launch Bixby and cannot be assigned for some other action. So, it can either be used for Bixby else nothing at all. Thus several people like to have it disabled and be free of accidental Bixby launches. Here is how to disable Bixby on Note 8 or any other Samsung phone that features Bixby.
Step 1
You need to be signed in to your Samsung account before you can disable Bixby:
Launch Bixby screen by pressing the button or simply swipe right on the screen of your smartphone.
Tap on Next
Pick the language of choice – Bixby Voice Language and then tap Next and then Sign in
Enter your Samsung account details and login
Step 2
The next step requires you to disable Bixby Voice – the Voice Assistant
Launch Bixby screen by pressing the button or simply swipe right on the screen of your smartphone.
Tap on the Menu which is the three vertical dots towards the top right-hand side of your phone
Then tap on Settings
Now toggle the Bixby Voice off (it should be greyed)
Now the Bixby voice will not irritate you anymore whenever you press the Bixby button accidentally.
Step 3
In the third step, we need to disable the Bixby button which will stop the Bixby button from coming up every time you press the Bixby button by mistake.
Launch Bixby screen by pressing the button or simply swipe right on the screen of your smartphone.
Tap on the Menu which is the three vertical dots towards the top right-hand side of your phone
Then tap on Settings
Now toggle the Bixby Key off (it should be greyed)
Now press the Bixby button – you will no longer get Bixby Home on your screen.
Step 4
In the final step, we need to remove the Bixby Home from the Home screen of your smartphone
Hold down anywhere in an empty space on your Home screen and wait for the menu to appear
Swipe right and you will reach the left home panel
You will see Bixby Home here – toggle to turn it off
Once all these steps have been completed you will no longer hear the Bixby voice or the Bixby screen on your smartphone.
The latest Samsung flagship – Note 9 allows you to disable Bixby in a much shorter way. Ensure that you have version 2.0.36.14 of the voice assistant. Here is how to disable Bixby button on Note 9.
Press the Bixby button to launch the Bixby screen
Tap on the Menu which is the three vertical dots towards the top right-hand side of your phone
Then tap on Settings
Tap on Bixby Key and check the option which says Press twice to open Bixby
This will keep you from accidentally launching the Bixby screen whenever you touch it.
