Shifting from iPhone to Android? Disable iMessage
If you are willing to shift from iPhone to your new android phone, you have to turn off iMessage, otherwise, you will not get messages.
Make sure to disable iMessage before you remove the SIM card. To turn off iMessage on your iPhone, follow the below steps:
Go to Settings
Tap Messages
Set iMessage to Off
Now, try sending messages to your family and friends to ensure that you can still send and receive messages.
After turning off the iMessage, it should automatically be deactivated from Apple’s servers. It should not create any issue. You can also manually deactivate iMessage from the Apple server. Follow the guide to know about the process.
How to manually deactivate iMessage from Apple’s servers
It is usually not necessary if you still have access to your previous iPhone and deactivate iMessage. But if, unfortunately, you’ve forgotten to do that, there is an online process to deactivate your phone number from the iMessage servers. Follow the steps below to deactivate iMessage from Apple’s servers:-
First, you have to go to Apple’s iMessage deregistration page from any web browser.
You’ll see a section on the page labeled No longer have your iPhone?
A page will now open for you where you have to enter the phone number you’d like to de-activate from iMessage and click Send Code.
A code will be sent to your current phone via text message. You have to enter the code that you’re sent.
The iMessage will now be deactivated. Wait for a confirmation message on your current phone that your iMessage has been deactivated.
There is also an alternative option. You can call 1-800-MY-APPLE to manually de-register your phone number from Apple. To do this, you’ll need two things on your hand.
- Apple ID
- The phone number
You will just have to call the number and ask them for technical support. You’ll get technical assistance from them. You have to tell them that you are switching to a smartphone that is not an iPhone, which is why you cannot receive messages. Ask them to unregister you from the iMessage servers manually.
That’s it. So, you can now easily disable iMessage following the steps mentioned above.
