Factory Reset A MacBook Pro

Mac OS Monterey:

Click on the top left corner menu bar and select the System preferences from the drop-down menu

Click on “Erase All Contents and Settings”

After entering the password, select the Ok button

Finally, click on Erase All Content & Settings button.

In no time, your MacBook will restart, and when it’s done, you will see a Hello screen.

Pro tip: Don’t try to turn off, unplug or interact with MacBook anyway while restarting.

Pre-Mac OS Monterey

An older Intel-based Mac calls for upgrading it to Monterey first, but it’s a dreary process if you want to factory reset without upgrading.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to backup and log out your accounts such as iCloud and iMessage before factory resetting your Mac.

First, hold the power button and then select Restart

Hold down the ‘Command’ and ‘R’ Keys while the computer restarts

Once the Apple logo appears, release the command and R keys

Next, a recovery Mode Menu will appear. Click on the Disk Utility option

Don’t forget to highlight the Macintosh HD startup disk in your Disk Utility Window

Now, select Erase

A pop-up window will appear, change the Format to macOS extended (journaled), and then select Erase again.

Then, Select Quit Disk Utility from the Disk Utility menu.

Next, reinstall macOS

Bingo! Your MacBook Pro has been successfully factory reset with the new macOS.
