16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro

Apple has launched its new 16-inch MacBook Pro. The new model has the M1 Max Apple silicon chip with a new High Power Mode for sustaining intense workloads. Remember that while it’s on, the new mode will de-prioritize resource-hungry system processes so the ‌M1 Max ‌ processor can run on its full performance capacity. Currently, it’s only available on the 16-inch MacBook pro with the ‌m1 max‌ chip. This new mode will be enabled when users go through large files or do some intense graphical tasks such as color grading 8K ProRes 4444 and 8K DNxHR video that require an extra performance boost. So the question is, how will users enable the new power more on their 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro? Here’s how you can enable the new mode.

How to turn on High Power Mode on 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro

First, open your new 16-inch MacBook Pro and click on the Apple sign located in the Apple menu bar at the top left corner of your screen. A single panel will open up, and then click the option that says ‘System Preferences’. Another panel will open up, and from there, go ahead and click on the Battery icon. Then select Power Adapter from the sidebar. You will see an option where it says ‘Energy Mode’. Click on that and select High Power.

Are you still confused? Let’s go through the steps again.

Go to the Apple menu > Click System Preferences > Click on the Battery icon > Select the Power Adapter from the sidebar, then choose High Power Mode in the Energy Mode pop-up menu.

How to check if High Power Mode is on

If you wish to check whether the High Power Mode is on or not, simply go ahead and click on the Battery icon in the Apple menu bar to see the battery status menu.

These are all the steps you need to know to enable high power mode. It is to be noted that when you turn on the High Power Mode, it can cause loud fan noises for as long as it’s turned on. While it is true that the high power mode does improve the performance of graphics-intensive workflows and playback becomes smoother and faster, the new mode can make the bottom of the MacBook Pro a lot hotter, but there is nothing to worry about.

However, it’s still not clear yet if it also improves gaming performance.

You can also select different energy modes depending on whether your MacBook is connected to the power adapter or not or depending on your performance preferences. You can choose to turn it on only when your MacBook is connected to the power adapter.
